Lawless elements failed to harass a Patrol Base in Mindoro

A Patrol Base (PB) in Sitio Sta. Maria, Brgy. Purnaga, Magsaysay, Occidental Mindoro was unsuccessfully harassed by lawless elements using two (2) improvised hand grenades on March 20, 2016, Sunday, 8:30 in the evening. Said perpetrators who were riding in four (4) motorcycles tried to throw the improvised grenades (mounted on a coke in can) inside PB Sta. Maria but it was thwarted by the security barriers that surround the detachment. Hence, it exploded on the running trenches instead, and has not inflicted any harm. According to Maj Eddie R Abolencia (INF) PA, Executive Officer, 4IB, 2ID, security units were alerted right after the incident as CAA Eljon Moli, the duty sentinel, noticed four (4) motorcycles that were rushing and heading on opposite directions. On the other hand, MGen Romeo G Gan AFP, Commander, 2ID stressed that the said incident is just a manifestation that the armed rebels are greatly affected by the presence of CAA Detachment in the said area. “Their harassment activity is meant to threaten our CAAs as they cannot launch their extortion activities granted that the troops are present in the area,” said MGen Gan. “Our troops in the area are all well-motivated to serve and protect the people from any atrocity that these lawless elements might conduct, he added.”
