3 NPAs killed, 5 HPFAs recovered in Quezon Province

Three (3) members of the New People’s Army were killed while five (5) high-powered firearms were recovered from them by the government following an encounter that ensued at Brgy Liwayway, Mauban, Quezon. Said encounter against an undetermined number of armed rebels happened while troops of the 85th Infantry Battalion, 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division, Philippine Army were conducting strike operation in the area on July 8, 2015 at around 6:00 pm. Presently, the 2ID troops are continuously conducting pursuit operations in order to track down and monitor possible wounded enemies near the area. Meanwhile, MGEN ROMEO G GAN AFP, Commander, 2ID, is once again asking the rebels who are still up in the mountains to surrender to the folds of the law in order for them to have a peaceful life instead of suffering the same fate of their dead comrades. He also stressed that the successful operation is due to the intensified stakeholders’ engagement of the Jungle Fighters as well as the active participation and support of Local Government Officials and residents in the area towards the advocacy of 2ID in sustaining peace and development within its area of responsibility.
