Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division, Philippine Army headed by MGen Romeo G Gan AFP, Commander, 2ID conducted a Send-Off Ceremony to the Officers and members of 16th
Infantry (Maglilingkod) Battalion on January 19, 2016, Tuesday, around 3:30 PM at Villamor Air Base, Pasay City.
The 16IB headed by LTC Andres C Ferrer INF (GSC) PA just finished its Disaster and Risk Reduction Operations (DRRO) mission in Mindoro due to Typhoon Nona, and will be redeployed in Mindanao under the Operational Control (OPCON) of 4th
Infantry Division in consonance to the Operational Plan of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for 2016.
On his message, MGen Gan urged all Maglilingkod Troopers to always give their best and remain being the pride of the Jungle Fighters Family and the Philippine Army as they are the personal choice of the Chief of Staff, AFP for the said mission.
“Today, as you will be sent-off to Mindanao to support the operational requirements of EASTMINCOM, it entails another kind of hardships and sacrifices. Yet, it is nothing compared to the high-level of preparedness and combat capability of the Maglilingkod Troopers,” he said.
It can be remembered that just recently, the 16IB underwent a Battalion Retraining at H2ID stationed in Camp Capinpin, Tanay, Rizal and has also tallied recoveries of four (4) High-powered Firearms and three (3) Low-powered Firearms in the areas of Rizal.
Prior to the said ceremony, a mass celebration was officiated by Maj Pablo R De Guzman Jr CHS (PA), Division Chaplain, 2ID for the blessing of troops.
Likewise, part of the said program was the inspection of troops wherein MGen Gan along with BGen Rodel Mauro R Alarcon AFP, Assistant Division Commander, 2ID, COL Reynaldo Celso A Lanuzo GSC (INF) PA, Division Inspector General, 2ID, Col Dante R Barotilla, Chief, Governance Strategy and Management Office, 2ID and other Officers of 2ID shook hands with the troops and wished them good luck.
Among other Officers present on the said occasion is Col Benjamin L Hao GSC (INF) PA, the Army Chief Public Affairs.
